This is an online classroom course for local authority officers, Councillors and Members of the Licensing Committee.

Fully aligned with the most recent Department for Transport Taxi Standards and Best Practice Guidance, developed with full regard to the REAL training manual, the course will demonstrate the importance of making sure that local licensing services are designed to be accessible and fair.

Delivered by experts in the trade, licensing law and equality law, this course is designed specifically for officers and members involved in making licensing decisions.

A local authority has a duty under section 149 of the Equality Act 2010 to:

• eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation
• advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it
• foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.

Our online classroom course will explain what this means in terms of taxi and prviate hire licensing, how these aims can be achieved and what officers and members should be looking out for when making decisions about driver, vehicle and operator licences.

This course is 3 hours long.

Following completion candidates will receive an electronic certificate.
